Rachael + Craig // An Evening in Paris

In this era of digital connectivity, it's amazing how friendships can transcend borders and oceans, bringing people together despite physical distance. Such was the case for me when I embarked on an unforgettable adventure to Paris last year, to meet a longtime internet friend for the first time in person.

For years, I had known Rachael, a lovely, warm and kindred spirit, through Flickr. Our shared interests in both photography and the beautiful, quiet moments of everyday life sparked countless conversations that bridged the geographical gap between us. Rachael, her husband Craig, and their beloved furry companion Nell live in picturesque Cornwall, while I resided in a bustling city halfway across the globe—though now that I live in Berlin I live much closer. The idea of meeting in person had always been a distant dream until an opportunity finally presented itself.

When Rachael and Craig decided to take a birthday holiday to Paris, they invited me to join them. Eagerly accepting their invitation, I packed my camera gear and set off for the City of Love. Finally, the day arrived when I saw Rachael’s smiling face in person at the bustling Notre Dame Cathedral. Although we had never met in person, we immediately embraced the familiarity we had developed over countless virtual encounters and many years. Our first meeting was full of laughter, joy, and a tinge of disbelief that we were finally sharing the same physical space.

Together, we embarked on a journey through the enchanting streets of Paris, my camera capturing moments of love, laughter, and pure happiness with this kind and genuine couple. From the charming cobblestone lanes of Sarbonne to the grandeur of the Louvre, we immersed ourselves in the city's rich tapestry of history and culture.

As our time in Paris came to an end, I couldn't help but reflect on the day we had shared. From strangers in the digital realm to friends capturing the magic of Paris together, the experience had exceeded my wildest expectations. Rachael and Craig had become more than mere internet friends—they were now a cherished part of my life's story.
